The Cloud, Containers & Kubernetes – it’s all Greek to me!
The noise around application containerisation and micro-services has never been louder and with a raft of new and exotic sounding platforms like Istio, Helm, Calico, Flannel and of course Kubernetes – it is hard to know where to start.
This presentation aims to introduce where containers fit in the Cloud world with a particular focus on Kubernetes – greek for Helmsman or Pilot – which is arguably emerging as the de-facto choice for container orchestration. We’ll discuss the history of containers, the background and core architecture of Kubernetes as well as take a look at the native Kubernetes platforms that are offered by the three leading Cloud providers:
- Google Kubernetes Engine – Google GKE
- Microsoft Azure Container Service – Azure ACS
- Amazon Elastic Container Service for Kubernetes – Amazon EKS
